The RDHS Gampaha, holds primary responsibility for overseeing curative, preventive, promotive and rehabilitative healthcare services across the district which includes nearly 10% of population in Sri Lanka. The RDHS manages a network of District General Hospital, Gampaha, four Base Hospitals (Wathupitiwala, Mirigama, Kiribathgoda & Minuwangoda), 10 Divisional Hospitals (DH), 45 Primary Medical Care Units (PMCU), 16 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions, the Regional Medical Supplies Division (RMSD), and the Biomedical Engineering (BME) unit. However, six major healthcare institutions in the district, Colombo North Teaching Hospital (CNTH) Ragama, District General Hospital Negombo, National Hospital for Respiratory Diseases (NHRD) Welisara, Rehabilitation Hospital Ragama, Leprosy Hospital Handala and Divisional Hospital Kandana are administratively under the line ministry and operate outside the purview of the provincial council. All provincial council health staff in Gampaha district are supervised and guided by the RDHS to ensure seamless healthcare delivery.
Additionally, the RDHS office oversees the implementation and management of various National-level vertical health campaigns within the district. These include programs for the control and elimination of communicable diseases such as Malaria, Filariasis, Leprosy, HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), and Rabies. This comprehensive approach ensures the delivery of effective healthcare services while maintaining public health standards throughout the Gampaha district.
